In Tübingen, Germany, Parents for Future Tübingen and German Zero Tübingen gathered the Mayor and City Council members in support of a Fossil Fuel Treaty.
The momentum for a Fossil Fuel Treaty is building and September is filled with opportunities to connect and support this growing movement. SEPT 22: GLOBAL ASSEMBLY OF THE CAMPAIGN FOR A FOSSIL FUEL TREATY
The first Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels broke a decade-longs of deadlock and opened a new political space dedicated to confronting fossil fuel extraction and production.
In 2027, the second conference will be held in Tuvalu, where we have a real opportunity to win a mandate to launch negotiations on a Fossil Fuel Treaty. But getting there will take a strong, organised and globally aligned movement.
The next few months are our chance to build that pressure. That’s why we’re launching the Global Assembly of the Campaign for a Fossil Fuel Treaty. This series of online gatherings is intended to keep our powerful global network connected, share key political developments, build alignment around campaign and communications strategy, and strengthen cooperation across regions and constituencies.
The conversations that began at the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels are far from over.
The webinar “Santa Marta and Beyond”, on September 2 at 10 a.m. ET, will bring together conference participants to reflect on the innovative pathways that shaped the Summit outcomes, from the High-Level Segment to the People's Assembly and the Academia Chapter. They will discuss how these experiences can inspire and strengthen climate action worldwide.
Join the webinar, co-hosted by The George Washington University Alliance for a Sustainable Future and George Mason Institute for a Sustainable Earth, for a dynamic panel discussion featuring Nathan Thanki from the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative.
The Just Transition Forum Asia 2026 will unpack the major COP30 breakthrough on the Just Transition Mechanism and explore how it can advance fair finance, support the fossil fuel phase-out and drive practical action across Asia and beyond.
The forum will bring together experts and practitioners from governments, civil society, labour movements, Indigenous Peoples’ organisations, academia, think tanks, businesses and international organisations. Together, they will exchange experiences, highlight initiatives already creating change and identify practical ways to turn commitments into action.

According to Tzeporah Berman, chair of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative, company and government officials insist their own barrel should be the last one sold, yet the conclusions more readily align with an expansionist view. New fossil-fuel infrastructure built today is designed to operate for decades, well past the point at which climate science says emissions must fall steeply.”
“Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative (FFTI) exists to try to bring this energy, momentum, and creativity together to try and imagine a new agreement.” While “treaty” is in the organization’s name, one doesn’t currently exist, Rafalowicz said. “It exists as an idea and a proposal. Our work is to try and turn it into reality.”
